What simple convenience is Sonoma County banning the use of for all of its county employees?

County Supervisors have banned buying water bottles and dispensers. Supervisors say it will save the county $70,000 per year and help the environment.

County employees will have to use reusable water bottles and refill them with tap water, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Both Sonoma’s Department of Health Services and Water Agency put an end to bottled water a year ago. Mendocino, San Francisco, Davis, Sacramento and San Jose already have similar bans.

What’s your take? Is this a meaningful ban that will lead similar movements from the surrounding community or is it just a “feel good, look good” type of ban?

Are there other items that should be banned by city and county governments that could save money or help the environment?
