The city of Sacramento will allow residents shoppers to its downtown, midtown and Old Sac area to park for free this year during the holiday season.

To encourage shopping in the city, Sacramento’s program will begin the day after Thanksgiving and last through Christmas Day.

The program will allowed free on-street parking starting at 4:30 p.m.on weekdays and all day Fri. – Sun, according to the city’s Department of Transportation.

All other parking violations, such as time limit restrictions, street sweeping and colored curb zones are still enforceable.

The City is also expanding the program to include free parking for the first 90 minutes at a city-owned garage and $1 per hour thereafter; up to a maximum of $5 at times the city manages the facility (4 p.m. to 2 a.m. and all day on weekends).
