The Legislature reconvenes thi week in Sacramento to hear bills and deliberate on how to solve another massive state budget deficit. The Legislative Analyst has already pegged the state’s deficit to be over $20 billion over the next 18 months.
On Wednesday, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will deliver his last State of the State address. The governor is expected to announce a job creation package to help spur job growth and jumpstart the economy. He will also discuss reforming California’s broken budget and tax systems, which, according to the governor, is the root of a lot of the state’s fiscal problems.
Finally, legislative bill hearings will be meeting in full force starting this week as legislators scramble to move any outstanding two-year bills out of the house of origin by the January 31 deadline.
