When it comes to giving to charity, one California city ranked in the Top 10 in America in terms of online donations.

The rankings of the nation’s most generous cities based on per capita giving in 2009 were done by Convio.

The liberal city of Berkeley headed the list of those cities ranked in California, finishing at No. 7 on the list. Of the 273 large cities (with total population of more than 100,000), only Berkeley and San Francisco (No. 13) ranked in the Top 25.

“The 2009 rankings are based on the more than $921 million in online donations processed by Convio on behalf of thousands of the nation’s leading nonprofit organizations during the calendar year. The current rankings come from donations processed between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2009.”

Pasadena (No. 27) and Sunnyvale (No. 28) ranked the next highest on the list.
