The Press-Enterprise reports that the session was to consider legal action to recover city funds from dozens of billing errors led to no announced action late Tuesday night.
“The discussion followed a half-hour presentation in open session by auditor Scott Manno reporting on his review of seven of the city’s 31 contracts.
He reported finding errors resulted from overbilling, delayed billing, double payments or unauthorized subcontractor payments which amounted to about $420,000. That included approximately $200,000 of problematic billings from Winzler & Kelly, the municipal services firm initially hired to provide the new city with staff and equipment.
The City Council now has a closed-door session to consider terminating City Manager George Wentz as well as ending its contract with suspended finance director Gary Thompson.”
