The alarm clock industry is buzzing. At least in one town, the competition has been cut.

The town of Danville approved an ordinance that roosters will no longer be allowed on properties zoned residential starting September 28, 2010.The ordinance passed 3-2.

According to a release from the town, the changes in the Zoning Text Amendment approved Tuesday include:

  • Prohibition on the keeping of roosters on residentially zoned properties.
  • Establish a maximum number of hens permitted on any properties zoned Single Family Residential.
  • Modify the definition of “Small Farming” to maintain consistency with the ordinance.

The released stated that the issue was first addressed in a February study session, following an increase in the number of complaints received by the Town regarding the keeping of poultry. Concerns raised by residents dealt with noise, odors and the attraction of pests.
