The Sacramento Bee reported on Friday morning that Yolo County is proposing major layoffs and spending cuts.

A $308 million Yolo County budget proposed for next fiscal year calls for 48 layoffs and a $16.3 million cut in spending on operating costs from the current year, officials said.

The 2010-11 spending plan, which was publicly released today, would represent the third consecutive year of net decline in operations, according to a press release by the county administrator’s office. Since 2007-2008, the county has cut 24 percent of its jobs — a total of 408 funded positions — and $38.3 million in revenues and expenditures, the statement said.
