The ex-BART police officer, Johannes Mehserle, has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the Jan. 1, 2009, shooting death of Oscar Grant.
From The Oakland Tribune: The case began more than a year ago when Mehserle pulled out his gun and shot Grant in the back as the 22-year-old laid prone on the Fruitvale BART station platform.
The verdict, which came after 6½ hours of deliberation, ends the initial chapter of an unprecedented criminal case that marked the first time in at least 15 years that a California police officer was charged with murder for an on-duty shooting.
