In response to Carlos Gonzalez from Marin (“Don’t Forget the Average Public Employee“), who wrote a letter to the editor on August 6, it should be pointed out that most “decisions makers” are not abusing the system.
In fact, the truth of the matter is that most decisions makers today are rolling back retirement benefits and basically undoing the decisions that were made in the later 90s and early part of this decade by then decision makers who decided to enhance retirement packages, which is one of the main reasons that local governments are in financial crisis. I was not a decision maker ten years ago when the real damage was done.
If anything, the decision makers of today are being responsible and prudent and have the unpleasant task of scaling back both retirement and health care benefits.
