The following letter was sent by a city employee in California, in response to the article, “$8 Million Police Chief Retirement Package

I find it interesting that the article on the $8 million retirement package is twisted to seem diabolical.  I agree that the retirement plans have gotten ridiculous and I am one of the people in the system.

Pure and simple, the retirement should be 2% per year of service with a maximum of 80% of salary. Spiking should be eliminated.  It should be based on highest salary for five years.  Or even 2% for each year separately.

Your article lightly notes that the $8 million is predicted on a possible long life after retirement. What happens if the person dies soon after retirement?  They get the after-death shaft for all the years of hard work.
