The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile & Delinquency Prevention notified the City of Los Angeles back in 2009 that it had been awarded a grant of $50,000 to fund a Summer Night Lights (SNL) Gang Reduction & Youth Development Program. (view staff report here)


Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa authorized a motion by Councilmember Eric Garcetti of the 13th District that will allow the Mayor’s Gang Reduction & Youth Development Office to administer the funds where they are deemed appropriate.

According to the staff report, the funds will partially fund the salary of the Regional Program Manager, as well as travel, supplies, contractual services and other costs.

The grant performance period lasts through June 2011.
