Recognizing the innovative and creative spirit of California county governments as they find new, effective ways of providing services to their varying populations, CSAC annually acknowledges counties through our Challenge Awards.

Facing fiscal tension, a spike in unemployment and a growing need for access to services from their citizens, California counties have demonstrated their aptitude in spite of a downturned economy by initiating local programs that supplement strained budgets.

This year, CSAC received nearly 250 Challenge Award entries for its four population categories. An independent panel of judges with expertise in county programs and challenges selected the award recipients. Overall, 10 counties are being honored with Challenge Awards and another seven with Merit Awards.

CSAC staff will be traveling all over the state this fall to present the 2010 Challenge Awards to recipients.  Additionally, each week we will be highlighting a winning county program in our Around Our Counties section of The CSAC Bulletin.  For a complete list of this year’s winning programs, click here.

Congratulations to the 2010 recipients of the CSAC Challenge Awards!
