The four newly elected Contra Costa department heads will no longer receive longevity pay, despite the objections of some.
Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday, with Gayle Uilkema absent, to remove the pay perk saying it is inappropriate for elected officials. The supervisors ended the perk — a 5 percent pay raise after 10 years of service and 7.5 percent increase after 15 years in most cases – for themselves in 2007.
Their move only affects the elected department heads, and does not affect the eligibility of the raises for non-elected county workers.
