A surprise donation of 12 acres of vacant land will double Half Moon Bay’s development potential on two key properties fronting on Highway 1, city officials announced Thursday.

Ronald and Patricia VandenBerghe, of Merit Manor LP, will officially sign over the Glencree property to Half Moon Bay at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, according to City Manager Michael Dolder. Glencree sits next to the Beachwood property, a 24-acre lot the city acquired in an $18 million lawsuit settlement in 2009.




“It gives the city the opportunity to consolidate the properties for future development,” said Dolder by telephone. “It is a piece that allows you to do a better plan for the area.”
