The Mt. Diablo school board on Tuesday will discuss laying off more than 20 maintenance and operations workers and cutting in half the hours of more than 41 school secretaries.



Trustees are considering the reductions effective Nov. 30 because of state budget cuts, stalled union negotiations and skyrocketing medical insurance costs. The district wants to cap district contributions to medical benefits for employees, which rose 6.8 percent for Kaiser this year.
