A budget forum and press conference to held in Chula Vista on Wednesday will address the financial standing of the city.

The Chula Vista Police Officer’s Association called the press conference and forum to introduce the findings of an independent study into the city’s finances. Joining the Association at the forum will be an expert in municipal finances.

The press event will be held at 3 p.m. and a public forum will follow at 5:30.

I expect the association to address claims of city manager Jim Sandoval that layoffs are necessary to bridge the $18.5 million gap in this coming year’s budget.

Currently 32 officers have received layoff notices, a 20% reduction.
