Not in his town….Armed with paint, steel wool and chemical solvents, 64-year-old Del Gundlach spends his nights taking down fresh graffiti, before vandals even have a chance to admire their handiwork in the daylight.

FREMONT — Graffiti vandals in the Niles district probably don’t know Del Gundlach, but they’re familiar with his work.

When the sun comes up and the vandals are in school or still in bed, Gundlach goes to town on graffiti tags.

With an arsenal of spray paint, house paint, steel wool and chemical solvents, the 64-year-old retired chemist takes down much of the graffiti around downtown Niles, often before taggers can savor their triumphs in daylight.
