A 31-year law enforcement veteran, Chief David Dominquez announced his retirement from the Palm Springs Police Department following the release of a city report that found he and other officers used anti-gay slurs during an undercover operation.

The Palm Springs police chief has stepped down after an inquiry revealed that he and other officers made anti-gay slurs while conducting an undercover sex-sting operation targeting gays having sex in public in the community’s Warm Sands neighborhood.


Chief David Dominquez’s decision to retire comes a week after he issued a public apology for his “inappropriate comment,” which in part led to a city inquiry into the incident and complaints that the police agency was unfairly targeting gays.
