Last year, PublicCEO named Valerie Brown its County Official of the Year.

After serving the people of Sonoma with her time on the City Council,  as Mayor, and then as County Supervisor, she distinguished herself from the applications submitted from around the state.

Her work and service has continued to grow. Her efforts in forming and operating the Network of Care for Healthy Communities won her national attention as well.

On Wednesday, we were happy to learn of her appointment by President Barack Obama to the President’s Advisory Group on Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health.

The council was established by Executive Order last year with the purpose of providing “coordination and leadership at the Federal level… with respect to prevention, wellness, and health promotion practices, the public health system, and integrative health care in the United States.”

After she was named County Official of the Year, Ms. Brown told PublicCEO that one of her assets is that “I’m never afraid of going through an open door. With a challenge, whether I take it on or not, I always believe I can.”

We congratulate Valerie Brown, the 2009 PublicCEO County Official of the Year, and we wish her best of luck and continued success.
