Southern California’s highly desirable community of Newport Beach (pop. 84,500) is seeking a Community Development Director. This newly created Department will be supported by approximately 50 full-time staff and an annual FY2010-2011 budget of over $7 million. The Department will encompass Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, and the Systems and Administration divisions.
The ideal candidate will have the rare opportunity to lead the formation of this important department with the merging of Planning and Building. The selected Director must have an outstanding customer orientation with demonstrated success in leading large-scale change. A track record of establishing efficient, reliable and consistent systems and processes is highly desirable. Newport welcomes candidates who are creative, results-oriented and inspiring people managers. This position requires at least seven years of increasingly responsible municipal planning and community development experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public or Business Administration or related fields. Master’s degree and/or AICP are preferred.
