This week I decided to do something a little bit different. I want to provide a little insight into the process of finding, conceptualizing, and constructing the “Staff Report of the Week”.

In the past two years of writing for PublicCEO, I have had the opportunity to communicate with such a large number of hard working and determined public administrators and elected officials, it is difficult to put the spotlight on some of the decisions that have been made.

No decisions are ever done quickly, or without thought. Every decision a public department or agency makes involves risks, and effects stakeholders in some way.

Much more time, effort, and collaboration within city and county departments are involved in all staff reports.

To compound the situation, the Staff Report of the Week provides a mere summary, of the summary of the decision.

With that said…

Most cities and counties have tremendous websites that are easy to navigate and provide answers a resident would desire.

Others bury information like staff reports and events behind imaginative walls, seemingly in an effort to frustrate the navigator.

The cities of San Jose, Pasadena, Oakland, San Diego, Redlands, Windsor, and Sacramento are just a few of my most frequented sites.

Counties include: Solano, Yolo, Orange, San Francisco and Tuolumne.

After finding a report I believe to be interesting and important to the readers of PublicCEO, I report my findings in a way that you as a public employee, community leader or citizen can make your own decision, and form your own thoughts.

In the coming weeks and months I would like the opportunity to slow my searches, and report on the issues that are important to you, the reader.

Hear my plea. Visit your cities website and search the council reports. Email me or just lead me to the report. Let your voice be heard.

I will even include you in my article.

Thank you. Not just because you read PublicCEO, but for involving yourself in the decisions that are evolving our society.
