There is a reason these people are called predators. These are not the types of crimes that are simply mistakes by an individual who can one day turn their life around, these are dangerous people who are sick in the head and they prey upon our children.
The ordinance, first introduced by my colleague, Council Member Steve Baric, is modeled after the one passed by the Orange County Board of Supervisors on April 5th which makes it a misdemeanor for registered sex offenders to enter county parks without written permission from the Sheriff.
I urge all other city leaders to consider adopting similar ordinances in their communities if they have not done so already in order to provide an additional tool to law enforcement to protect their residents from these dangerous predators.
My colleagues on the council should be commended for supporting this, and I am thankful to the residents for giving me the opportunity to continue my commitment to public safety by serving them on our city council.
