The contract of newly hired Sacramento City Manager, John F. Shirey was approved last Tuesday, August 9th, bringing the city’s 17 month nationwide search to a close. Shirey will take management duties away from Interim City Manager William Edgar on September 1st.
According to the City Council’s resolution, In February 2011, through a competitive process, CPS Human Resource Services was selected by Council to conduct the nationwide executive recruitment for City Manager for an amount not to exceed $27,650.

Recruitment materials were prepared in collaboration with the City and posted to various government publications and websites as well as being sent to over 300 references and other potential candidates. Of the 33 candidate resumes, 14 were chosen for further evaluation.
After council interview and review of further background checks and verification of resume, Shirey was given a three (3) year contract.
Base salary given in this contract is $258,000 per year with the potential of merit raises based on performance.
