But the Fontana School Board has recently been caught up in such a scandal, as its Vice Chair confirmed that she has hidden her marriage to convicted murderer Jason Garcia. The two met in 2001, when then-named Leticia Chavez was researching the rehabilitation of young men sentenced to life in prison. They fell in love and in 2002 were married. Although the Garcias have been married for nearly the last decade, it’s a fact that Mrs. Garcia has hidden from most, except her closest friends and family.
Despite the legal marriage, as late as last year, Garcia listed herself as divorced on her application for office.

The vice chairwoman of the Fontana Unified School District board has admitted she has been married to a convicted murderer since 2002, but on her application to run for the school board last year, she said she was divorced.
Leticia Garcia said that when her husband, Jason Garcia, was released from California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo on Sept. 30 – after 27 years in prison – it was time to tell the truth.
“In retrospect, I could have handled things differently,” Garcia said in an interview Sunday.
