The city of Dixon and Mayor Jack Batchelor, Jr., took an opportunity to recognize some of the communities most valued assets by proclaiming May as, “Older Americans Month”.

Community and city leaders share in the belief that older adults play an important role in sharing knowledge and history with children and youth. These generous folks give of their time and wisdom to enrich the lives of their friends, family, neighborhood, and community. According to the proclamation and the U.S. Census Bureau there are 69,705 citizens aged 60 or older in Solano County.

Batchelor’s stated that the city can enrich the lives of citizens, young and old by doing these three things: Emphasizing the value of including elders; creating opportunities for elders to interact with younger generations, and by providing services, technology and support.

During the month of May the city encourages you to take an opportunity to engage the community and thank your neighbor for all they do. Older Americans unquestionably enrich the lives of us all.
