The City Council of Monterey will recognize the Communications and Outreach Office on October 2nd for their work in earning the “Award of Excellence” from the City, County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) for electronic design of the City’s website.

This national organization is made up of communications and marketing professionals from large and small cities, counties and special districts. According to the staff report, 3CMA received over 500 entries for awards in 25 categories. Monterey competed against cities and organizations with much larger populations and budgets.

Monterey’s Communications Office is the primary communications channel to get information to city residents, visitors and businesses. In 2011 this office rebuilt and upgraded the city site to give it a “new look and feel”, but also make the source easier to navigate.

The city report to be discussed next week attributes much of the sites success to the City’s webmaster Laurie Huelga. Since the re-design, the site has increased its “views” and average visitor usage time. This is a very important indicator of success when the main source of information is placed online.
