The Orange County Employees Association has released nearly a hundred emails that they say show a hypocrisy in Orange County’s hiring policies and has county attorneys scrambling to investigate potential gaming of recruitment practices.

The emails, which were accessed using public information laws, shows that supervisors have a tendency to help their aides find another job with the County before leaving office. Oftentimes, those jobs are lateral moves, but in some cases, former aides end up running departments. The OCEA says that it is hypocritical for supervisors to discuss cuts while working behind the scenes to help place their cronies.

In certain cases, those new placements have resulted in massive raises for aides. When one was placed in a new role in Community Resources, he received an 80 percent raise.
