An October 23rd staff report from the city of Riverside formally requested the purchase of seven 16-passenger, Paratransit vehicles for the Special Transportation Program in the amount of $739,726. The Purchasing Manager and general Services Director concurred with the recommendation that there was no impact to the General Fund. The total funds were available from an FTA Grant and Proposition 1B Account.

The purchase of the seven vehicles will allow the city to replace vehicles at 150,000 miles, and meet replacement standards, and expand its fleet by five vehicles. The total fleet will now be 35. The Special transportation is available to seniors 60 years of age or older, or those with disabilities. Seniors and those with disabilities can call ahead and reserve a ride up to get around town. This critical service has now seemingly expanded with the increase in fleet.
