Ever wonder what happened to your old boss after retirement? For some, retirement does actually mean golf and rest. For Arne Croce, retirement meant working in Iraq, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and then the war-torn city of Bell.

Croce wasn’t always a globe trotting local government guru. For nearly two decades, he worked as the city manager in San Mateo. But after he retired in 2008, he worked for a consulting company based out of San Jose. It was through that association that he was able to work through challenges in different parts of the world.

Eventually, Croce brought his talents to bear in Bell, helping to restore confidence and stability in a city that had been ravaged by allegedly conspiring and corrupted officials. His work in Bell has earned him accolades from the local government community.

But now, according to his former boss in San Mateo, Croce is going to actually retire, spending time with his wife and family.
