The city of Modesto standardized its switching and routing network with Cisco Systems Inc. in 2004 as part of updating its key infrastructure. Providing host connectivity to all data services including e-mail, telephone and telecom, video conferencing, 9-1-1 dispatch, Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi), INET, and internet access to all City departments is critical to functionality according to the city’s staff report. Bids were formally opened in the City Clerk’s office, and one company responded by provided a responsive and responsible bid. No local vendors bid. City staff recommended the award of bid for the purchase of Cisco SmartNet Maintenance to Network Dynamics, Oldsmar, FL, for a total estimated cost of $110,070. The City Manager authorized the Purchasing Manager to issue formal Request for Bids (RFB) for the purchase of Cisco SmartNet Hardware Maintenance for a three year term.

Modesto Municipal Code Section 8-3.203 requires all purchases, which meet or exceed $50,000 for material, equipment or contractual services to be formally bid. The award of bid for the purchase of Cisco SmartNet Maintenance for the Information Technology Department, to Network Dynamics, Oldsmar, FL, does conform to the Modesto Municipal Code

As a point of note: Cisco SmartNet Service provides technical support service to City staff with direct, twenty four (24) hour access to Cisco engineers and an extensive range of technical resources.
