The City of Redding is opening its public access television services to negotiations, and has identified three potential operators to interview. A commission ranked all the three candidates, with the current operator coming in last.
In addition to the current operator, candidates being considered include the Shasta County Arts Council and Shasta Community Media. The Arts Council was the top ranked candidate. But no operator is without is opponents.
The Arts Council has been criticized for lacking transparency. To address that concern, the Council has agreed to make all meetings public. Additionally, the Arts Council board president and his then-wife were implicated and pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges. He says that his body of work since those charges shows a commitment to his community.
