With deficits projected from 2015 on, Santa Monica City Hall decided that it must make sure that all of the City’s revenue sources are maximized. In an attempt to do just that, the City has hired NCO Financial Systems, a collections agency, to ensure that all delinquent accounts, fines, and taxes are paid.
The two-year contract was agreed to earlier this month and required a $200,000 fee. However, the City hopes to make that back, and then some, by ensuring that all of its parking tickets, vendor accounts, individual levies, and various taxes are paid in full. NCO, which has been working in collections for 86 years, has already proven their services with several other local governments in the state.
The Finance department had handled delinquent accounts, but only had one employee focused on collections. Even with the new contract, that employee’s job will continue.
