The April 21st Clovis City Council meeting may have an itsy bitsy teeny weeny bit of controversy during its public comment section, all thanks to… well, an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini.

Bottom’s Up Espresso is Central Valley-based coffee franchise whose ability to compete with giant chains like Starbucks may very well hinge on the fact that their baristas are clad only in skimpy bikinis. The coffee shop’s website touts its business strategy as “a combination of great customer service, great drinks and sexy women.”

The franchise, which serves up drinks like the “Blonde Bombshell” and “Sweet Senorita,” began in Modesto and has since expanded to Clovis, Tracy and Bakersfield.

Clovis resident Candice Eslick lives a block away from the coffee shop and does not believe the skimpy attire is appropriate for her neighborhood or Clovis as a whole. She is planning on delivering a petition to the Clovis City Council later this month.

However, Eslick’s petition may not get very far as Clovis City Attorney David Wolfe remarked that the city probably does not have the authority to do much about the business’s strategy.

“We don’t usually address that in our city code except in adult businesses. All your private parts have to be fully covered or it’s an adult business and you have to go somewhere else,” Wolfe said to the Associated Press. He further stated that city officials have visited the shop and the business has followed the rules.
