Last month, MuniTech Academy completed its first three-day ITIL Foundation course for a dozen Information Technology professionals from throughout the state. The students from California cities and agencies were all able to take the course virtually, saving valuable training budget dollars in the process.
Municipal Technology Academy (“MuniTech Academy” for short) is an extension of the education program of the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC). Backed by a long history of partnerships through MISAC, and through a joint venture with Tripepi Smith, MuniTech Academy provides education and professional development for local government Information Technology and Information Systems employees and managers.
“It was a fantastic training session. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and likeable,” said George Herrera, IT Help Desk Manager at the City of San Mateo. “I look forward to the training options that will be available in the future from MuniTech Academy.”
Many Information Technology training opportunities from other providers are only offered in physical locations and require air travel in order to attend. By taking classes online, employees and employers are able to cut costs and logistics tied to travel and accommodations. The partnership with MISAC and its training partners also provided a cost savings of approximately 30-40% off the usual price for this ITIL Foundation class. ITIL Foundation courses can cost $2,395 or more; MISAC members were able to take this course for only $1,495 and non-members were able to take it for $1,695.
