U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions ripped Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf yesterday during a speech in Sacramento, calling her “an embarrassment to the proud state of California.”
Two weeks ago, Schaaf issued a statement imminently warning undocumented immigrants that ICE agents may be preparing a large-scale action in Northern California.
ICE agents, indeed, descended on the region last week, resulting in 150 arrests, although none in Schaaf’s Oakland or neighboring cities.
“Here’s my message to Mayor Schaaf: How dare you. How dare you needlessly endanger the lives of our law enforcement officer to promote a radical open borders agenda?” said Sessions.
A day earlier the federal government filed suit against the state for three pieces of legislation recently passed by the Legislature to protect undocumented immigrants from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
Schaaf responded by mimicking the form of Sessions’ earlier statement, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
“How dare you vilify members of our community by trying to frighten the American public into thinking all undocumented residents are dangerous criminals?… How dare you distort the reality about declining violent crime in a diverse sanctuary city like Oakland, California to advance your racist agenda?”
