Cathy DeFalco, director of procurement and regulatory, will represent the California Choice Energy Authority (CalChoice) at the Western Systems Power Pool’s (WSPP) Spring 2019 Operating Committee Meeting.

The event will be held April 10-12 at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Fla. Programming will include an opening session on the topic of California’s Wildfires: Impacts on Western Power Markets, workshops on resource adequacy and carbon regulation, and a general session with presentations on energy evolution and the natural gas market.

“The WSPP’s spring conference sets an industry standard for relevant programming, timely presentations and meaningful networking activities,” says DeFalco. “I look forward to sharing the knowledge and insights I gain with our members.”

Founded in 1986 to support an efficient and robust wholesale electric power market through meaningful trading relationships, WSPP is an organization of electric wholesale market entities that have developed and use a standardized power agreement to execute trading opportunities. As a member of WSPP, CalChoice can more effectively manage power delivery and price risk.

“The standardized contract terms offered by the WSPP agreement facilitate transactions without constant renegotiations, and CalChoice and its associate members benefit from the market liquidity that the agreement promotes,” says Jason Caudle, executive director of CalChoice and city manager of the City of Lancaster. “Cathy’s background and expertise position her well to reinforce CalChoice’s relationship with WSPP and to leverage this opportunity to further benefit our members.”

CalChoice offers support for local governments in every phase of the CCA program implementation process, providing feasibility services to determine whether a CCA program is appropriate, developing implementation plans for members to submit to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and managing the implementation process to launch the CCA program, as well as continuing to support members once their CCA program becomes operational.
