City of Duarte logoThe City of Duarte is pleased to announce the arrival of our new City Clerk, Annette Juarez.

“I am honored to be a part of the Duarte staff,” Juarez stated. “Duarte is a tight-knit community and I love the small-town feel where you get to know the people you serve. I am happy to be part of the team and look forward to making a difference in this community.”

Juarez offers Duarte strong administrative experience gained from eight years of service at the City of Azusa. She joined the Azusa City Clerk’s Office in 2013, and recently finished her tenure as Assistant Chief Deputy City Clerk.

City Manager Daniel Jordan pointed out that Juarez proved to be a great fit during the interview process from both a professional and personal standpoint.

“Annette has experience with both the role and functions of the city clerk position,” stated Jordan, “but she also brings a positive attitude and eagerness to help which are key attributes for the position, and are also a reflection of the high-level customer service that we seek to provide here in Duarte.”

Her interest in local government took root at her first workplace out of college with a law firm representing school districts and cities. Juarez found herself naturally interested in policies, such as the Brown Act and Public Records Act, which ultimately guided her to pursue local government full-time.

As she settles into her new role, Juarez is already forming goals for Duarte. She is ready to examine and improve the efficiency for cataloging and accessing public records both internally for staff and externally for residents. She will also continue to adapt City Council meetings format as dictated by changing COVID-19 public health orders.

“The City Clerk’s Office is typically the first point of contact for cities and serves as an information hub,” Juarez added. “The City Clerk assists with everything from council meetings to elections–I love that every day is different.”

Juarez obtained the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Los Angeles. She is currently working toward her Masters in Public Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills and will graduate in the Spring. She resides in the San Gabriel Valley with her husband, stepdaughter, daughter, and son.
