The City of Hercules was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for budget preparation and the Operating Budget Excellence Award Fiscal Year 2021-2022 from the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) for excellence in budgeting.
“The receipt of these awards exemplifies the efforts the City has taken to improve the quality of budgeting,” said Mayor Dion Bailey. “The City will continue its efforts to maintain transparency and excellence in budgeting and all financial matters.”
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award reflects the City’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive this award, agencies must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an agency’s budget serve as a:
- policy document
- financial plan,
- an operations guide
- communications device
The Excellence in Budgeting Award is designed to recognize agencies whose budget documents meet certain state-wide standards and requirements considered to be of the highest quality. This award represents a significant accomplishment by an agency and its leadership in achieving and maintaining a high standard of excellence and setting an example by encouraging others to achieve and maintain that same standard.
“The City has been working diligently to advance the quality of our budgeting process,” stated Hercules Finance Director Edwin Gato. “We are thankful for this recognition and hope that this will be an example and encouragement to other agencies to achieve and maintain mastery in governmental budgeting.”
