The Town of Yucca Valley is continuing work on two pedestrian improvement projects to upgrade roadways, ensure ADA compliance and enhance safety measures for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.

The Onaga Trail Pedestrian Improvement Project is located on Onaga Trail between Acoma Trail and Grand Avenue. Due to existing constraints to meet the Town’s General Plan guidelines, the Onaga Trail project is divided into two segments. When completed, both segments will feature full-width pavement, curbs and gutters, handicap ramps and sidewalks on both sides of Onaga Trail. This project, when completed, creates sidewalks on both sides of Onaga Trail between Sage Avenue and Acoma Trail. Work is scheduled to begin on December 12, 2022.

The Little League Drive Pedestrian Improvement Project is located on Little League Drive between Palm Avenue and Sage Avenue. The project consists of constructing curbs and gutters, sidewalks on the south side of Little League, handicap ramps, driveways and roadway signing and striping. In addition, Little League Drive will terminate into a mid-block cul-de-sac at approximately the Boys and Girls Club entrance, improving pedestrian crossing and safety between the north and south sides of the recreational complex. A majority of the work will occur on the roadway’s south side. No widening of the road will occur in locations with existing curbs and gutters, however, curb ramps at the intersections may need to be installed and potentially retrofitted. Work is scheduled to begin on January 3, 2023.

“These projects prioritize the safety of pedestrians, many of whom are children and students,” said Deputy Town Manager Shane Stueckle. “While residents may experience traffic inconveniences during the construction phase, we appreciate the patience of our community members as we work to improve the accessibility, safety, and longevity of these valuable spaces.”

Throughout the course of these projects, the Town conducted robust outreach to residents, including:

  • Public workshops
  • Website updates
  • Construction notifications via Town social media channels
  • E-Newsletter project updates
