City of Redwood City logoThe Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recently awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Redwood City for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021. This is the 35th consecutive year that Redwood City has received this prestigious award. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“I am proud the City has received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the past 35 consecutive years,” said City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz. “This award represents our ongoing interest and unwavering commitment in planning and conducting the financial operations of the City in a responsible and sustainable manner.”

The GFOA initiated the award program in 1945 to encourage and assist local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving the goal.

The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program. In order to be awarded a certificate of achievement, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized annual comprehensive financial report.  This report must satisfy both accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America and applicable legal requirements.

The City’s 2022 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report will be presented to the City Council in March 2023.
