City of Hawthorne logoThe City of Hawthorne is proud to announce that it will be hosting a vibrant Juneteenth celebration on June 17, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Holly Park located at 2058 W. 120th St. This event is in collaboration with Holly Park Neighborhood Association, Parkside Village and Traditions at the Greens. It aims to honor and commemorate the historical significance of Juneteenth, celebrating freedom, unity and the rich cultural heritage of the African American community.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is an important commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The City of Hawthorne recognizes the significance of this moment in history and is committed to fostering a community that embraces diversity and equality.

The Juneteenth celebration will feature a wide range of engaging activities for attendees of all ages. Highlights of the event include jazz music performed by J.W.B. Band and educational exhibitions that shed light on the history and importance of Juneteenth.

City Manager Vontray Norris expressed his excitement about the upcoming celebration, stating, “The City of Hawthorne is thrilled to host this momentous Juneteenth celebration, which provides an opportunity for our community to promote social connections, civic pride and celebrate the rich African American heritage that is an integral part of our nation’s history. We invite everyone to join us at Holly Park for a day filled with joy, education and unity.
