The City of El Centro is proud to announce the inauguration of its Hometown Heroes Program, designed to honor the City’s local military service personnel with eye-catching banners displayed along Downtown El Centro.
“We are so excited to honor our City’s veterans and active service members with this program,” said City of El Centro Mayor Martha Cardenas-Singh. “This is a tribute to our brave local men and women who proudly serve our country and represent our community. Serving our country is a family effort; this is one way we can honor our families and their proud veterans and service members.”
The banners will feature the service person’s picture and branch of service. This initiative pays tribute to those who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces. They will be displayed on light posts along Main Street between Fourth and Eighth Streets, from Nov. 1, 2023, through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The cost for each banner is $175. The banner purchase deadline is Aug. 24, and only 30 spots are available. To place an order, you must submit a completed application, fee and required documentation to the Economic Development Division office at 1249 W. Main Street. The application can be downloaded from the Economic Development Division section of our City website at www.cityofelcentro.org starting Aug. 3. A link to the application will also be posted on the City’s main Facebook page /ElCentroCa the morning of Aug. 3.
Documents required in addition to the application are as follows: military verification (Military ID or DD214 form), a color or black and white portrait of the honoree in uniform (minimum size 5×7), and proof of residency with one utility bill matching the applicant’s information. Applicants must be current residents of the City of El Centro.
