Coachella recently announced a partnership with the Housing and Workforce Solutions of Riverside County to assist residents with minor repairs to their home exteriors. The Home Enhancement Program (HEP) will provide up to $50,000 in repairs including paint jobs, roof and window repairs, health and safety upgrades to income-qualified homeowners.
“HEP is part of our strategy to start rehabilitating and assisting tired homes and neighborhoods. We have numerous residents who suffer through harsh weather conditions due to structural deterioration of their homes that they aren’t able to address due to financial limitations, so I truly see this program as a humanitarian effort,” stated Mayor Steven Hernandez. “Our elders are particularly susceptible, and this program gives us the ability to provide the support they so desperately need.”
In order to qualify for the HEP Program, the total income for each household must be no greater than 80% of the median household income for Riverside County for a comparable household size. In addition, a $35 nonrefundable application fee is required per household, the applicant must be the owner-occupant of the property, and the property must be located within the City of Coachella. The dwelling must be stick-built or modular (attached to private land) owner-occupied single-family residence on the property owner’s private property, and one homeowner must be either a U.S. citizen or qualified alien as per section 431 of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act (PRWORA).
