In October 2023, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada awarded the Town of Yucca Valley with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This is the 18th consecutive year the Town has received this award.

The Certificate of Achievement represents a significant accomplishment of good governance and fiscal responsibility and is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting. The annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2022, qualified the Town for this award.

“The Yucca Valley Town Council recognizes the importance of financial stewardship,” shared Mayor Rick Denison. “Our residents rely on the Council and our staff to use Town funds responsibly and maintain transparency and we are pleased to see financial health remain a focal point of our community.”

The reports are reviewed by an impartial panel of judges who affirm the high standards of the program, which includes the Town demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and encourage residents and other groups to engage with the report.

The Town’s continued designation would not be possible without the diligent efforts of the Town’s Finance Department under the leadership of Finance Manager Ms. Jordan Gumbish. The department works to maintain the financial and accounting system of the Town and provide the Town Council and other departments with timely financial information to support the decision-making process.

“Many thanks go out to the hard-working staff of Yucca Valley who place financial responsibility at the forefront of their efforts,” shared Town Manager Curtis Yakimow. “Receiving this notable GFOA designation for the 18th year in a row is an honor and a testament to the staff and processes in place.”
