Los Altos Hills logoThe Town of Los Altos Hills is proud to announce that on May 22, 2024, it was honored with the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. These awards represent significant accomplishments by a government and its management.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Los Altos Hills’ comprehensive FY2023-2024 budget was judged by an impartial panel to meet the program’s high standards. The Town was able to report an operationally balanced budget and address key services and capital improvement projects. The GFOA recognized the Town’s commitment to financial transparency and excellence in its 2023 City Council Work Plan.

In addition to the Certificate of Achievement, the Town of Los Altos Hills has also received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. This award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the budget award, the Town had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan and an operational framework.

City Manager Peter Pirnejad expressed pride in the Town’s finance and administration team, stating, “We are thrilled to receive these prestigious awards from the GFOA. These recognitions affirm our commitment to financial transparency and accountability. Our team has worked diligently to ensure that our financial reporting and budgeting processes are among the best in the nation. We will continue to uphold these high standards for the benefit of our community.”

Mayor Stan Mok added in a statement that “I am incredibly thankful for the Town’s staff in creating a diligent and comprehensive budget proposal that continually raises the bar in our Town’s commitment to financial transparency and excellence.”

The GFOA, founded in 1906, represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The association’s more than 20,000 members are federal, state/provincial and local finance officials who strive to advance excellence in public finance.
