City of Hawthorne logoThe City of Hawthorne is proud to announce the successful adoption of a balanced budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. With a surplus of $2.25 million and required cash balances increasing to nearly $27.5 million, this budget reflects the City’s commitment to continued financial stability and local improvements.

The new budget includes a 13% increase in City revenue. Additionally, expenditures will increase by about $5 million, with significant investments in public safety, personnel, benefits, economic uncertainty contributions, pension stabilization and debt service for the much-anticipated Civic Center project.

The budget planning process, which began in December, involves rigorous reviews of revenue projections and expenditure requests by Hawthorne’s finance department. Following an initial budget draft, public workshops and hearings are held each year to ensure community involvement and feedback throughout the process.

“The City of Hawthorne’s finance department has set us up for success once again,” said City Manager Vontray Norris. “The team, led by Finance Director Felice Lopez, is great at what they do, and are very proactive in keeping us on point regarding our budget and our revenue.”

Over the past six years, Hawthorne’s reserve has increased from $30 million to approximately $100 million. This achievement underscores the city’s commitment to conservative spending and financial stability, ensuring funds are available to weather instances of future economic uncertainties.

“The goal has been to spend conservatively so that funds are available down the line,” said Lopez. “We’re proud of our progress, and will continue working to maintain that financial stability for future generations.”
