For over 55 years, the California Revenue & Tax Association has been influencing California municipalities, setting standards of both innovation and growth. This member-based association is committed to helping affiliates stay informed on tax and revenue changes, navigating revenue permits, advocating for practical legislation and building partnerships with like-minded organizations.

Each year, the CMRTA hosts an annual conference with sessions, workshops and networking opportunities, allowing members to stay updated on current trends and regulations. This year, the annual conference: Enchanting Solutions for a Prosperous Tomorrow will be held at the Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel, Nov. 5-7.

A special feature of the CMRTA is that it presents three different awards to members during the conference. Award submissions for this year’s conference are currently open through Sept. 30. Please read below for the requirements of each award to see if you or someone you know is eligible to be nominated.

Bruno Marchetti Award

Bruno Marchetti was part of the CMRTA for many years, setting a legacy of mentoring revenue professionals before there was an official program. To honor the heritage of Marchetti, the CMRTA state board created a program that recognizes individuals who demonstrate the highest ideals of municipal revenue and mentoring within the organization. This is the highest award of recognition the CMRTA offers.

To qualify for this award, a nominee should have the following requirements:

  • Leadership experience that brought change to the organization statewide
  • 2 years served on a division board
  • 4 years served on a state board
  • Certified Revenue Officer (CRO) accreditation is highly encouraged, but not required

Lighthouse Award

The CMRTA Lighthouse Award for Excellence was established by the CMRTA in 2003 to recognize outstanding achievements made by staff of CMRTA member cities. The award applauds the long-lasting efforts and innovative solutions in three areas:

  • Increased revenues for the city from a special project, amnesty program, auditing, or an effort made by the organization.
  • New technological advancement that has made the city more efficient, resulting in cost savings.
  • Developed an ordinance or made legislative changes that have made a significant impact on the community.

All member cities, counties, state and federal agencies of CMRTA are eligible to apply as long as they can show tangible and measurable results. For more information on the award or to apply, please click here

AI D. Capuchino Merit Scholarship

Al D. Capuchino was a city auditor, long-time representative of Carlsbad and the original CMRTA mentor. He embodied the values of the CMRTA and set an example for fellow members to follow. The scholarship award will recognize an individual who, like Capuchino, has provided remarkable service to the CMRTA.

The award is a scholarship for the annual CMRTA conference and is reimbursable for the following items: registration, lodging, travel, or any meal while attending the conference that is not included in the full conference package.

The state board will select a nominee from a division geographically opposite the city of the annual conference. This year, all nominees submitted from the Northern Division are eligible to receive this scholarship. For more information on applying, please click here

Submissions for all award nominees are due by Sept. 30 at 5 p.m.
