Known for its idyllic beach community and outstanding quality of life, the City of Pismo Beach is seeking a strong manager and an innovative leader to serve as its next Assistant City Manager (ACM). In this position, the ACM will maintain operational responsibility for the City Manager’s Office (CMO), as well as oversight of the Public Works Department, Community Development Department, and Fire Services contract. The ACM will have four direct reports including two department directors, and two CMO staff, which includes the City Clerk and Human Resources Officer. The ACM serves as the Public Information Officer with the primary responsibility to effectively communicate City news and programs to media outlets, the community, and internally to staff.

This is a fast-paced, high-profile position that requires a strong leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of current trends, issues, and legislative matters affecting local government. They will also be confident on camera and in public speaking, including during emergency management situations. The City of Pismo Beach offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package, including CalPERS retirement, deferred compensation contributions, and health benefit allowance. The annual salary range for Assistant City Manager is $178,526.19 – $216,999.70 Annually.
Qualified candidates possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a master’s degree is highly desirable. Seven (7) years of increasingly responsible management experience in municipal government.
