The City of Signal Hill, population 11,500 and covering 2.2 square miles is in Los Angeles County within four miles of the Pacific Ocean. Working directly with the City Manager and City Council, the Deputy City Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Administration Department including the divisions of Communications/Public Relations, Economic Development, and Human Resources. The Deputy City Manager will supervise, coach, mentor Department Directors, and provide leadership and guidance on sensitive, complex, or controversial projects in collaboration with the Department Directors. Candidates with experience in human resources, finance, and capital project management are highly desirable. Municipal budgeting knowledge and experience will be critical to the success of the Deputy City Manager who works closely with the City Manager on the City’s budget. Any combination of education, training, and work experience to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in public administration, political science, economics, finance, urban planning, or a related field plus seven (7) years of progressively responsible municipal management experience, including five (5) years of supervisory experience. A Masters’ degree is highly desirable. Experience with a municipality that offers multiple services, including a police department, is helpful.

The salary range is $162,443.08 – $213,139.41/annually plus a benefits package and a 9/80 work schedule. The application period closes at 4:30 PM on Friday, January 27, 2023.
