City of Cerritos

The City of Cerritos is located in the heart of the Los Angeles/Orange County metrocenter, midway between Downtown Los Angeles and the business centers of Irvine, Santa Ana and Anaheim.  Because Cerritos is virtually the geographic center of the Los Angeles Basin, it has become one of Southern California’s premier commercial crossroads.  Cerritos is served directly by three major freeways and is close to two others.  Beautifully maintained neighborhoods, carefully planned retail areas, abundant recreational facilities and a world-class performing arts center make Cerritos an exciting, attractive place to live and work.

Under general direction of the Assistant City Manager, supervises, coordinates and controls all activities of the City of Cerritos’ Public Works Department. Manages and maintains a variety of municipal services and facilities including streets, safety lighting, traffic signals, street sweeping, refuse collection, storm drains, sewers, municipal buildings, vehicles and equipment, neighborhood and community parks, public swim facility, municipal golf course, street trees, median and parkway landscape, water production and distribution, and electric utility administration.  Coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and various community and regulatory agencies.  Provides highly responsible and complex administrative assistance to the Assistant City Manager, City Manager and City Council in coordinating and directing departmental activities and operations.  Serves as a member of the City’s Executive Team and ensures that the personnel and financial management programs of the Public Works Department are consistent with municipal policies and procedures. Prepares special studies and reports and presents projects to the City Council and City Commissions. Performs related work as required.

The ideal candidate has a combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five (5) years of professional public works or related experience with at least three (3) years’ experience at a managerial level.  Possession of a Master’s Degree in a related field or Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification is highly desirable. 

The monthly salary range for this position is $14,494-$17,944 per month.  The actual salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
